Chapter 16
âCome on, it will be fun. Besides, sitting here and pouting all day isnât healthy.â
âCassie, I really donât want to,â I said as I tucked my head beneath my pillows.
âCayden and I think it will get your mind off of things.â
âOh really? You two are discussing my life without me?â I mumbled. When did they become such good friends?
âWe wonât stay long. Come on, Kara. Dominicâs probably out having fun right now. So you should to.â
âI donât care what that madman does.â
âAre you really going to let him win?â
I bit my lip and thought about that. She was right. He was probably wrapped up in the arms of that airhead, Kimberly. I peered out of my mountain of pillows. âOh, all right. Give me ten minutes.â
âGoody!â she squealed happily. âCayden will be here in five.â
âYou planned on me going all along?â I asked in disbelief.
âIâm pretty confident in my persuasion skills.â Cassie flipped her blond locks and smiled brightly. âHere, Iâve already picked out your clothes.â
I groaned. âCassie, no. I can pick out my own.â I took a weary look at the outfit that lay at the foot of the bed and couldnât hide my surprise.
âDonât worry; I had you in mind when I picked them out. I know better than to try to force you into a mini skirt and heels.â
Thank God, I thought, reaching for the clothes. I shimmied into the faded jeans and t-shirt and dragged myself to the full-length mirror beside Cassieâs bed. My mouth quirked into a small smile as I admired my reflection. The gray tank top was simple, but slimming. I draped my neck with my charm necklace and slipped into my sneakers.
âIâm ready,â I announced, just as there was a knock at the door.
Cassie blew past me and yanked the door open eagerly. âHey, Cayden,â she said in a sultry voice.
Cayden stepped inside, and I must admit, he was quite a remarkable sight. His plaid shirt suited him. It was snug, accentuating the lean muscles in his chest and thick biceps.
Cassie came up beside me and whispered, âThat collar is opened just wide enough to make you yearn for more.â She wet her lips. âGod, I think Iâm in love.â
Caydenâs eyes settled on Cassie. âWow, Iâm impressed you were able to convince her.â
âMe too,â she replied. âI was about to bribe her with free pedicures for a month.â
Cayden chuckled.
âDonât laugh blondie. I never said whoâd be giving the pedicures.â She shot him a playful grin and grabbed her purse from the desk. âNow, letâs go have a little fun.â
****
âI canât believe I let you talk me into coming here, again,â I said, touching my fingertips to my forehead.
âOh lighten up,â said Cassie. âHave a drink and get your fanny out on the dance floor.â
âNo, I just agreed to come so youâd get off my back.â I settled into a barstool and looked around. The same redheaded bartender was working. She was busy sopping up a puddle of beer until she noticed Cayden.
